Happy Friday!
This week has been a week of Windrush, Direction and creating repeating patterns. This week, we have been working on our English text Granny Came Here on the Windrush. We have explored what the Windrush generation is and have written in role as a passenger on the HMT Empire Windrush - thinking about why we are travelling to Britain. Maths has seen us working on dividing 4 digit numbers by 1 digit numbers, solving problems and using related multiplication and division facts. In Science we explored compasses and how they work. We watched an exciting video, that demonstrated how to make a compass, many of the children expressed and interest in wanting to make their own at home, so here is the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4_tQQFHpSa4 Miss Brooking has explored Music, Repeating patterns in Computing, French and mixing shades of colour in Art. On Thursday, the year 5s really enjoyed their third swimming session, whilst the year 4s wrote amazing descriptive settings. Finally, P.E has seen us developing our Hockey skills, we have worked on passing and intercepting this week. Next week, sees us completing our final write, using our text Granny Came Here on the Windrush as inspiration. We will complete our unit on Multiplication and Division in Maths and will explore Magnetism and forces in Science. We'll also continue work on Medieval Monarchs in History and work on our Hockey skills in P.E, P.E. will be on Friday for this half term, so please send the children in with their kits on on Fridays. Finally, the children will come home with their homework books on Monday. In these there are spellings for this week, Maths questions based on what we have been doing in class and a topic homework with a choice of activities. Please could the book come back in on Thursday next week for marking and so that the children can add next week's home learning. Topic home learning is due in on Thursday 13th February. Have a great weekend everybody, see you on Monday. Jason Foreman Happy Friday!

In Science we explored magnets and their origins, investigating repulsion and attraction. History saw us thinking about who was responsible for the death of Thomas Becket. Miss Brooking has explored Music, Repeating patterns in Computing, French and mixing shades of colour in Art. On Thursday, the year 5s really enjoyed their second swimming session, whilst the year 4s explored multiplication through loop games with Miss Penny. Finally, P.E has seen us developing our Hockey skills, we have worked on passing and intercepting this week. A week of Windrush, Multiplying and Hockey! This week, we have been working on our English text Granny Came Here on the Windrush. We have explored what the Windrush generation is and the themes that run through the beginning of the story. Maths has seen us working on multiplying numbers by 10 and 100 as well as using formal methods of calculation. In Science we explored what contact and non-contact forces are, but began by exploring with magnets and thinking about what we already know and what we'd like to find out. Miss Brooking has explored Music, Repeating patterns in Computing, French and Bridges in DT. On Thursday, the year 5s really enjoyed their first swimming session, whilst the year 4s explored multiplication through loop games with Miss Penny. Finally, P.E has seen us developing our Hockey skills, we have worked on passing and intercepting this week. It has been fabulous to have the children back, but it has been a bit of a strange week, particularly weather wise! We have worked on redrafting and finalising our fairy tales with an alternative ending, with some great twists to traditional tales! In Maths, we started our second Multiplication and Division unit of the year, which builds on the previous unit adding in some more complex concepts. In Geography, we completed our presentation based on Informal settlements and the problems that the residents of these face and possible solutions. We completed a shorter week, with a P.E. session outside, with our Saints coach. This half-term, we will be working on Hockey skills. Don't forget, that on Thursday next week, the Year 5s will be starting their swimming sessions. Therefore, can the Year 5s please ensure that they have their swimming kit and packed lunch, or have a school packed lunch booked, so that we can leave promptly for the bus at 12.20. The Year 4s, will be working alongside their fellow year 4s from Willow class with Miss Penny, whilst the year 5s are swimming in Okehampton. Next week, we will be working on our new English text (to be revealed on Monday), Multiplication and Division in Maths, Magnetism in Science and Medieval Monarchs in History. The children also work on French, R.E., Computing and either Art or DT with Miss B on Wednesdays. We will continue with Hockey on Fridays and will have an active break everyday otherwise. Finally, the children will come home with their homework books today. In these there are spellings for this week, Maths questions based on what we have been doing in class and a topic homework with a choice of activities. Please could the book come back in on Thursday next week for marking and so that the children can add next week's home learning. Topic home learning will be out next Friday, once we have started our new Science and History units. Have a great weekend everybody, see you on Monday. Jason Foreman |
