Dear Beech Class Families,
We’ve had another busy and exciting week in Beech class, filled with learning, creativity, and plenty of fun! Here's a little snapshot of what we've been up to. In Maths, the children have begun exploring the world of measurement, focusing on centimetres. We’ve been comparing the lengths and heights of different objects around the classroom and school. The children have really enjoyed getting hands-on with rulers and measuring. They have been practicing using the correct vocabulary such as “shorter than”, “taller than”, “longer” and “equal to.” It’s been lovely to see them working together to estimate and then measure accurately. In English, we continued our work on the charming story of The Odd Egg by Emily Gravett. This week, we thought more deeply about how Duck might be feeling as he takes care of such an unusual egg. The children had some fantastic discussions and showed great empathy, imagining what it would be like to wait so patiently for whatever is inside the egg to arrive! To celebrate Duck’s efforts, the children created their very own certificates awarding him for having the “Most Beautiful Egg in the World.” The children’s writing was thoughtful and creative. Our RE learning took us into a story from the life of Jesus. We looked at when Jesus called Matthew, a tax collector, to be one of his disciples. The children learned about the job of a tax collector in those times and why they weren’t always seen in a good light. We had some brilliant discussions about forgiveness, kindness, and giving people a second chance. This week in Design and Technology, our class began an exciting project where they worked in small groups to design and create a Baby Bear Chair. The children explored a range of materials that they could use, such as cardboard, fabric, paper and pipe cleaners. Working collaboratively, they shared ideas and began thinking about how to build a chair. It was fantastic to see the children’s creativity shine through as they experimented with different shapes, textures, and construction methods. We look forward to seeing the chairs develop over the coming weeks! Thank you for sending in your cardboard tubes from clingfilm, foil and kitchen roll – please keep sending them in! Thank you for your support of Beech Class. Mrs Hamilton
