Dear Beech Class Families,
We hope you all had a restful and enjoyable half term break. The children have returned to school with great energy and enthusiasm This week in English, we began exploring our new book called Up and Down by Oliver Jeffers. This delightful story features two friends—one of whom is determined to fly. As we read together, the children discussed the character’s dreams and feelings, particularly focusing on how he felt when he realised he could not achieve his goal as he had hoped. We have been using this story as a springboard for writing and will be exploring themes of perseverance and friendship. In maths, we are continuing with our money topic, which has given the children lots of opportunities for practical learning. The children have been using coins to explore different ways to make a variety of amounts. They have enjoyed using real coins to develop their understanding and make the concepts more concrete and fun. Our geography lessons have taken us on a whistle-stop tour around the world as we begin our new focus on continents. We have looked at maps and globes, compared sizes and will be discussing what makes each continent unique. We look forward to continuing this learning journey. In RE we are beginning a new topic about places that are special to people of faith. Over the coming weeks, we will be exploring sacred places in Christianity, Judaism, and Islam. The children will learn about churches, synagogues, and mosques. We will be discussing why these places hold such meaning for believers. This topic is a lovely opportunity to develop respect and understanding of different beliefs and practices. As always, thank you for your continued support of Beech Class. Mrs Hamilton
