Dear Beech Class Families,
As we reach the end of this busy and exciting half term, we wanted to take a moment to celebrate all the wonderful learning and experiences the children in Beech Class have enjoyed over the past few weeks. In maths, the focus has been on fractions as well as understanding money. The children have been learning to recognise coins and notes, and how to combine them to make different amounts. They have been developing their skills in identifying the value of pounds and pence, comparing amounts, and even starting to solve simple problems involving giving change. These are essential life skills, and it has been lovely to see the children using the maths equipment. In English, the class have been busy creating their own Spotter’s Guide to Eggs, featuring creatures such as alligators, owls, robins, and even flamingos! The children have learned to write in an informative and descriptive style, using different sentence structures to make their guides engaging and helpful. It has been a fantastic opportunity for them to practise using adjectives and technical vocabulary in their writing, while learning more about the natural world. Science has taken us on an exploration of different habitats. The children have loved learning about where animals and plants live and why certain habitats suit certain creatures. One of the highlights has been a recent scavenger hunt, where the class ventured outside to search for items that were living, such as plants and small insects, and non-living, such as stones and toys. This hands-on experience helped reinforce their understanding of the differences between things that are alive, once alive, and never alive. It was a joy to see their enthusiasm and curiosity in action. We were also extremely proud of Beech Class for their confident and enthusiastic performance in the poetry recital on Wednesday. Every child delivered their lines beautifully. It was a fantastic opportunity for them to practise speaking aloud with clarity and expression, and they should all feel very proud of themselves. Thank you for helping them learn this at home too. A big well done to everyone involved! As always, thank you for your continued support with your child’s learning. We hope you have a wonderful half term, and we look forward to seeing the children refreshed and ready for more exciting learning after the break. Mrs Hamilton
