Dear Beech Class Families,
We have had another busy and exciting week in Beech class, full of learning and discovery across all areas of the curriculum. In maths, the children have been learning all about fractions. We have focused on halves, quarters, and thirds. The children have worked hard to understand that fractions are equal parts of a whole. They have used practical resources to help them develop their mathematical understanding. In English, we have continued reading our focus book, The Odd Egg by Emily Gravett. The children are really enjoying this heart-warming and humorous story about a duck who finds an egg of his own. This week, we took a closer look at how the duck might be feeling as he patiently waits for his egg to hatch. The children also wrote thoughtful letters to the other birds, congratulating them when their eggs finally hatch. It was wonderful to see the children use their empathy and imagination to connect with the different characters in the story. In science, we have started our topic on animals and their habitats. The children have explored the variety of animals and plants that can be found in different environments. They thought about the unique features of habitats such as deserts and oceans. We discussed how living things are suited to their habitats and what they need to survive. There were some brilliant discussions, and the children are beginning to understand how animals adapt to the world around them. This term, the PE focus is on athletics and rounders. In the athletics sessions, the children have been practising their throwing and catching skills. These are key techniques they need when playing rounders. They have enjoyed a variety of team games and challenges to develop their coordination, aiming, and movement skills. The children's teamwork is improving each week, and they bring much enthusiasm to the sessions. There is much to look forward to in the weeks ahead. Thank you for your continued support of Beech Class. Mrs Hamilton
