This week in Beech Class, we have had an exciting time full of learning, teamwork, and brilliant achievements! A special shoutout goes to our *Star Learner*, Harper! Harper has shown incredible determination and motivation in her writing. She has worked exceptionally hard, making great strides in her storytelling and sentence construction. Well done, Harper, we are so proud of you! Literacy 🌟 In Literacy, the children have been exploring the wonderful world of 'Stanley’s Stick'. We have been sequencing our story sentences, focusing on making sure the story flows in the right order. Year 2 have been working extra hard to write larger quantities of work, producing more independent writing. It's fantastic to see their confidence and creativity growing! Year 1 have been focusing on building strong sentence construction skills. They are learning how to use capital letters at the start of sentences and full stops at the end. They’ve made great progress! Math 🧮 In Maths, we completed our learning on place value and wrapped up the unit with assessments. Everyone gave their best effort, and now we’re diving into our next exciting topic: 'Addition and Subtraction'! The children are enthusiastic about their new challenges and are showing brilliant problem-solving skills. History 🔍 In History, we learned all about the remarkable 'Marie Curie'. The children were fascinated to discover her legacy as a pioneering female scientist. We discussed her important work and how her discoveries still impact the world today. The children were inspired by her bravery and determination. Computing 💻 This week in Computing, we explored the different types of technology we find in the world around us, both inside and outside our homes. The children enjoyed spotting everyday tech such as streetlights, traffic lights, computers, and kitchen appliances. They learned how technology helps us in so many ways every day. PSHE 🤝 In PSHE, we had a thoughtful discussion on 'How to Be a Good Friend'. The children shared some wonderful ideas on kindness, listening, and how to support each other. It was lovely to see how much they care about being kind and considerate to their classmates. --- What a fantastic week it’s been in Beech Class! We are looking forward to another exciting week of learning and growing together. Keep up the great work, everyone! 😊

**Year 1 Class Blog - What We've Been Learning This Week!**
This week in Year 1, we've been busy with lots of exciting learning across all our subjects! First, we want to give a HUGE congratulations to Amelia, our *Star Learner* of the week! 🌟 Amelia has been a fantastic role model to her classmates, showing kindness, patience, and hard work in everything she does. Well done, Amelia! Literacy In Literacy, we’ve been working on creating leaflets inspired by the book 'Here We Are' by Oliver Jeffers. The children did a brilliant job using the book’s themes to write and design their own informative leaflets. We are so proud of their creativity and hard work! Maths In Maths, we’ve been continuing with our place value learning. We've been focusing on numbers up to 20 and even looking at numbers up to 100! The children have been using number lines to help them understand one more and one less. It’s great to see them growing in confidence with these important number skills. Science In Science, we explored how light travels. The children made *slit boxes* to show how light travels in straight lines and how it reflects off objects. It was such a fun and hands-on way to learn about light, and everyone was fascinated to see it in action! Design Technology (DT) In DT, we’ve started planning for our 'Moving Monster' project! We discussed who we will make our monsters for, thinking about the different people who might love a creative, moving monster toy. The children are full of wonderful ideas and we can’t wait to get started on building these! PSHE In PSHE, we talked about feelings and how they can affect our bodies. The children shared their own experiences and we discussed what we can do when we feel different emotions, like excitement, sadness, or anger. It was a great opportunity for everyone to reflect and think about how to handle big feelings in a healthy way. It’s been an incredible week full of learning and fun! Keep up the great work, Year 1!
